race the perimeter is an unsanctioned team relay race along the border of Washington, DC or Manhattan, NYC

  • DC: the 3rd annual RTP will be on Saturday, May 9th, 2026. Solo runners start at 6:00am and relay teams start at 7:00am.

    NYC: the 3rd annual Manhattan RTP is on October 3rd, 2026

  • You can be a team of 1 or up to 6 people, with any gender combination. There will be different divisions based on team gender makeup, but there will be no division based on number of team members. There are no designated legs of the race where team members must switch, you can develop your own strategy on who is running when, where, and how.

  • There will be a recommended Strava route provided to you! Please note that the start/finish line location for NYC 2026 will change slightly as we finalize the finish line festival, but you can plan for it to be on the West Side. We are also making map updates due to past/new construction and a final version will be sent out later in the summer.

  • This race is unsanctioned, so there will be no official timing devices, but each team will have a live tracker. The winners will be determined by the first teams that cross the finish line and meet the designated checkpoints. The time limit for the race is 10 hours (11 for DC solo runners) - the finish line closes at 5pm.

  • No. this race is unsanctioned and self-supported. You are responsible for yourself and your team members from getting from the start to the finish line. You are responsible for your own transportation in between runner tradeoffs (recommendations given). Your team will be running on walking paths, not highways.

  • Yes! All winner prizes will be announced on social media @racetheperimeter prior to the event

  • You can substitute a team member if someone is no longer able to run, but you must email racetheperimeter@gmail.com to coordinate the transfer as each runner participating in the event must register themselves. There will not be an additional fee for the replacement runner.

  • Unfortunately, costs are allocated to each event prior to the event start date, so there are no refunds. You may sub out individual runners on your team for no additional fee, but there are no cancellation refunds.
